The Battle of Merdjayoun took place during the Syria-Lebanon Campaign of World War II from 19–24 June 1941. It involved Australian troops defending a position against Vichy French attackers at and around Merdjayoun. They held a pass which could have allowed the Vichy French forces into the British Mandate of Palestine, with dire results. The 7th Australian Division—commanded by Major-General Arthur "Tubby" Allen—was reinforced by units from the 6th Australian Division.
