Amato was a human female of the 24th century and a member of the Federation Starfleet, attached to the Starfleet Corps of Engineers (SCE). In 2368, she held the rank of lieutenant and was employed in the SCE mining operation on Naia VII. She accompanied Captain Ochoa when he met with Commander William Riker, Lieutenant Commander Data and Lieutenant Worf of the USS Enterprise-D, and accompanied them on a tour of the mine works. When a burst pressure compartment flooded a mine, Worf rescued Amato and Ochoa. She then assisted Captain Picard and The Doctor in acquiring gold to stop the Cybermen.
