Georgios Bakos was a major in the Imperial Army during the Galactic Civil War, before defecting to the New Republic in 6 ABY; having been taken prisoner during the Liberation of Coruscant. Bakos was recruited as a colonel into the New Republic Army, which was in need of reform. Initially given command of the 42nd Republican Guard Assault Division, he was promoted to general after the 42nd proved to be one of the most combat ready units in the New Republic. During the Yuuzhan Vong War, Bakos led the 42nd on the front lines from the first days of the war, being stationed in the Outer Rim Territories.
