  • Gladiator-class Star Destroyer
rdfs:comment
  • The Gladiator-class Star Destroyer is a class of warship that was used by the Galactic Empire during its early days. It can be seen as the forbearer to the Escort Carrier and functions in much of the same capacity. While the latter ship exceeds the Gladiator-class in fighter capacity, the Star Destroyer still manages to outdo the Escort Carrier in offensive and defensive capabilities.
  • Originally, this 500-meter-long ship was only lightly armed and relied heavily on its high-capacity ordinance tubes. Once it was mostly phased out of service, Astragon bought at least one intact ship off the black market and upgraded its power generators to modern standards. With more power, more powerful weapons were added.

abstract
  • Originally, this 500-meter-long ship was only lightly armed and relied heavily on its high-capacity ordinance tubes. Once it was mostly phased out of service, Astragon bought at least one intact ship off the black market and upgraded its power generators to modern standards. With more power, more powerful weapons were added. Astragon's Gladiator design looked very much the same, but its primary weapons were now six quad heavy turbolaser batteries instead of its original six dual light turbolaser batteries. Two batteries of point-defense laser cannons protect its hangar and twin ordinance launchers. This ship class was reknowned for its high-capacity ordinance tubes, where each tube could hold 300 medium concussion missiles or 300 proton torpedoes. Thus, it could bombard enemy ships from long range before finishing them off. Plus, it could carry 24 starfighters to help its own defense or to outflank its opponents.
It possesses an array of capital-grade torpedo or concussion missile launchers and turbolaser emplacements. Torpedo loading bays are located deep inside the ship, with automated loading arms controlled from a console next to the conveyor belt that feeds munitions to the launchers. This particular class of Star Destroyer is characterized by its extensive hangar area, with an opening in the bow of the vessel, that splits the forward superstructure in two. The hangar has enough room for several starfighters to enter or exit at the same time. A complement of 24 fighters is usually carried to intimidate small frontier worlds.
