He began acting in the Oldham Theatre Workshop in the mid 1980s and went on to join the Mark Hudson Drama School in 2009. He began acquiring a roll call of credits from 1998 onwards but in addition to his acting work he has been a fully operational firefighter with the Manchester Fire Brigade since 1995 and has seen time as a professional boxer.
