He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and has acted on stage at the Old Vic, the Leicester Haymarket and in the United States of America. On film he played the title role in independent film Al Capone, for which he won the Best Actor award at the 1995 Barcelona Film Festival. His other television roles include parts in Agatha Christie's Poirot, Pie in the Sky, Babylon 5, Monk, The Bill, Hustle and New Tricks.
