| abstract | - Ness (ネス Nesu?) is an unlockable character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and has appeared in every installment of the Smash Bros. series thus far. Ness is one of the only six unlockable characters to appear in the opening cinematic of Brawl. The five others sharing this attribute are Mr. Game & Watch, R.O.B, Marth, Snake, and Sonic. Despite being buffed from Melee to Brawl, Ness is currently ranked 26th on the tier list. His unsafe recovery, unusually long grab release animation, and below-average match-ups have prevented him from reaching high tier. However, his powerful KO moves, good comboing ability, and powerful throws have gotten him into the D tier.
