He was the author of the The Successful Insurance Agent, etc., published in 1922. He became an alderman on Richmond Borough Council, and was chosen as Mayor of Richmond for 1926-27. He was also a member of Surrey County Council representing Richmond North. He was chairman of the Safety First Association which sought to improve road safety. Early in 1926 he was injured in a fall on an omnibus, necessitating an operation on his leg. He died in hospital following surgery.
