He was the son of John Bisgood, Deputy Chief Constable of the Somerset Constabulary. Born in Glastonbury, Somerset, he became the London secretary of the Edinburgh Insurance Company and editor of the Insurance Record. He was the author of the The Successful Insurance Agent, etc., published in 1922.

  • Joseph John Bisgood (1861-10 February 1927) was an insurance agent and local politician active in the Richmond area. He was the son of John Bisgood, Deputy Chief Constable of the Somerset Constabulary. Born in Glastonbury, Somerset, he became the London secretary of the Edinburgh Insurance Company and editor of the Insurance Record. He was the author of the The Successful Insurance Agent, etc., published in 1922. He became an alderman on Richmond Borough Council, and was chosen as Mayor of Richmond for 1926-27. He was also a member of Surrey County Council representing Richmond North. He was chairman of the Safety First Association which sought to improve road safety. Early in 1926 he was injured in a fall on an omnibus, necessitating an operation on his leg. He died in hospital following surgery.
