  • Jon: Yes. Time for my gym battle. Maria: Who are you going to use? Jon: That would be telling. Jon: I’ve been to Bugsy’s Gym and it wasn’t like this at all. Viola: Jon, you ready for the Gym battle? Jon: Totally. And this gym is the perfect place for the Pokemon typing this gym specialises in. Maria: You know? Kyle: He mentioned Bugsy, I think he knows. Jon: Viola is a Bug type Gym Leader. The trees have a silky glow to them indicating that Bug type Pokemon have been there. Kyle: That is very observant. Viola: It seems you have prepared a lot. Jon: Yeah. Jon: Good with me. Maria: So it’s like a tactic?

Jon: Yeah. Viola: This is Janet, she will be the referee today. Jon: Good with me. Janet: The Gym battle between Jon, the challenger, and Viola, the Gym Leader, is about to begin. Both sides can use two Pokemon each and the battle is over when one sides Pokemon can no longer battle. Additionally, only the challenger can make substitutions. Maria: Why is Jon the only one allowed to make a substitution? Kyle: It’s a way for the Gym Leader’s to see all of the challengers Pokemon after making them change. Maria: So it’s like a tactic? Kyle: Yes. Viola: Then let’s begin. Go Surskit! Jon: Hm. Maria: Is Jon going to use Quilava or Fletchling first? Kyle: Don’t know. Jon: Quilava, cheer us on. Janet: Who will you send out first? Jon (Thinking): I’ve done some research on Viola and she loves use Sticky Web. Jon: Then Froakie, it’s you and me! Maria: Froakie? Why not Fletchling? Kyle: Jon must be waiting for a bit later. Janet: Battle Begin! Viola: Start fast, Signal Beam! Jon: That’s powerful. Protect! Jon: Now Bubble! Viola: So you have Protect. Bubble Beam! Maria: Froakie! Jon: Pound! Viola: Fast too. Sticky Web. Jon: Knew it! Kyle: Jon knew Surskit could use Sticky Web? Jon: Use your Frubbles. Viola: Smart. Jon: Bubble! Viola: Signal Beam! Jon: You okay Froakie? Jon: Froakie? Kyle: What was that? Jon: Oh right. New move! Viola: Signal Beam! Jon: Dodge then Water Pledge! Viola: Signal Beam! Jon: Dodge! Viola: Ice Beam! Viola: Froakie is fast and strong, but with the ice there, Water Pledge can’t be used. Nor can any move apart from Bubble. I’ve won this round. Jon: There has to be something. Jon: Froakie, use your Frubbles to create stepping stones. Viola: Quick thinking. Kyle: Froakie still can’t use Water Pledge. Maria: But at least Froakie can move around again. Viola: Bubble Beam! Jon: Protect! Jon: Pound! Janet: Surskit is unable to battle, Froakie wins. Jon: Alright. Great work Froakie. Viola: Good work Surskit. The picture is always good, but it’s the setting which makes it perfect. Vivilon, show them what I mean! Jon’s Pokedex: Vivillon, the Scale Pokemon. Vivillon are skilfully able to find a source of water. It has been said that you’ll find a spring if you follow a Vivillon. Jon: So that is Vivillon. Froakie, return for now. Froakie: Kie, Froakie Fro. Jon: Good with me. Viola: Why is Froakie over there? Jon: Froakie wants to watch and support. Viola: I see, then who are you going to bring out? Fletchling: Fletch! Viola: A Fletchling. Maria (Shouting): But Fletchling doesn’t know any Flying type moves! Kyle: Great, now Viola knows. Maria: Sorry Jon! Viola: Fletchling doesn’t know any Flying Type moves? So how do you expect to beat Vivillon? Jon: We don’t need super effective moves to win a match. I believe in Fletchling and Fletchling believe in me, and that is the way to win. Viola: I see. Janet: Begin! Viola: Solar Beam! Jon: Dodge with Agility! Jon: Now, Quick Attack! Jon: Only a graze. Viola: I see your strategy is speed. Jon: Tackle! Viola: Dodge! Viola: Sleep Powder! Jon: No! Viola: Solar Beam! Kyle: Still sleeping after that? Maria: Sleep Powder must have been strong. Viola: Still sleeping, then this will be an easy win. Psychic! Jon (Thinking): Just hang in their Fletchling. Viola: Still nothing, then Gust! Jon: Hang in their Fletchling! Our opportunity will come, we just have to be strong! Jon: Now, straighten out! Jon: Great work Fletchling. Viola: Nice. Now Solar Beam! Jon: Now, use Agility! Jon: That was a new move. Maria: What was that move? Kyle: Acrobatics, a flying type move. Jon: Let’s strike hard. Agility! Jon: Now, Acrobatics! Janet: Vivillon is unable to battle. Janet: Fletchling is the winner, which means Jon is the victor. Maria: All right! Viola: That was quite the battle. Jon: Thanks. Viola: This is the Bug Badge. Jon: Thanks Viola. Viola: Do you know what gym you are going to challenge next? Jon: No. Viola: Then I suggest the Cyllage City Gym. Kyle: To get there, we have to travel through Lumiose City. Maria: Then can we meet Professor Sycamore? Jon: Yeah. It would be great to see him and show him how Froakie and Fletchling are doing, along with Bulbasaur of course.
