abstract
  • Terry Cheetham started racing Microds in 1982 at the age of six. He enjoyed 11 years of racing, experiencing tremendous success in various Microd classes as well as Quarter Midgets. Terry and his family often ventured out to other clubs around UpState New York to test themselves against other competitors and other track layouts. Terry's other favorite past time was going to Spencer Speedway and cheering on his heroes in the open wheeled Modified division. In 1992, the Microds were sold, and a Street Stock (or as he called it "the fender car") was purchased to race at Spencer Speedway. He ran the Street Stock for two years winning features and coming close to a championship. In 1995 Terry upgraded classes to Sportsman Modified (later known as Grand American Modifieds, then SST Modifieds, now NASCAR Weekly Modifieds) bringing Terry to his favorite form of racing, "open wheel cars". Terry focused on this class for the next 6 years again enjoying many successes. At the end of the 2001 season Terry made another upgrade and purchased a Troyer Asphalt Modified. So in 2002, Terry was now running with the veterans he once called his heroes. "People expected our rookie season to be a learning year, but our team was in the thick of battle nightly resulting in a top 10 points finish and just missing the Rookie of the Year honors by a very slim margin". Terry continues to call Spencer Speedway his home track while challenging himself with ventures out to Oswego Speedway to compete with the ROC Modified tour teams. In 2007 Terry combined forces with long time fan and racer Tom Fecteau and Epic Ventures Motorsports Group and continues to run Modifieds in New York State.
