NIGHTHAWK is very insecure about this weakness, and hides a deep paranoia regarding it. Equipped with radar absorbing paint and special dampeners on his servos, he is able to move silently in both fighter and robot modes. He carries a heavy caliber machine gun as his primary weapon in robot mode, with a laser attachment. In fighter mode, he carries guided missiles, machine guns, and laser weapons.
- The Nighthawk is an escort fighter craft. Once detailed scans of the Protoss Phoenix were acquired, the Vaul quickly began creating countermeasures against the fighter. One weakness found in the designs was that the new starfighter had very little firepower in comparison to the Terran Viking. This was a very odd aspect for the Protoss as they mostly used superior power to overwhelm weaker opponents. The only thing that made up for this flaw was the fighter's Graviton Beam in support roles. Other than that, it was believed the Phoenix would perform poorly in prolonged dogfights against fighters with greater firepower. Despite these flaws, the Vaul still felt there was potential in creating a counterpart for the Phoenix. After multiple simulations and trials, the Nighthawk heavy fighter was built to descend on enemy armadas as birds-of-prey. Similar in appearance to a bat, Nighthawks retain most of the speed and maneuverability of the original fighters with added weaponry (Star Trek - Deep Space 9: Jem'Hadar battle cruiser; DC Universe: Batplane). Nighthawks do retain some of the weapons and Graviton Beam technology of their counterparts. However, with more advanced Xel'Naga technology, Nighthawks can attack with more power and a faster firing rate. Augmenting the Nighthawk's capabilities is an experimental crystal used to store psionic imprints. Using data collected from the Battle of the Overmind, the psionic imprints form a temporary construct of both Khala and Void energies upon destruction. Fueled by rage, these imprints are made to kamikaze the closest and as many enemies they can. As they are composed of psionic energy slightly out of sync with normal space, the imprints are immune to all forms of conventional attack including the beams from Void Rays (Warcraft III: Spirit of Vengence). In any case, enemy forces will never leave a battle against Nighthawks without sustaining heavy losses. Special abilities:
* Graviton Beam - anti-gravity lifts ground units into the air rendering them unable to attack or use abilities. Nighthawk cannot move or attack while immobilizing target unit. Effect can be canceled on command if used on friendly units. Cannot target Massive units. Effect lasts for 10 seconds or until target enemy unit or casting Nighthawk is destroyed
* Vengeance (passive) - unit becomes ethereal upon destruction and gains a 200 splash damage kamikaze attack. Nighthawk cannot be damaged by normal attacks while in this form. Lifespan of imprint is 60 seconds
