THe following year he was traded to the Minnesota North Stars and McMahon played what would be his only full NHL season in 1967-68. Over the next four seasons his rights belonged to no less than seven NHL teams. McMahon never again caught on with an NHL team as a regular. In 1972 he jumped to the Minnesota Fighting Saints of the World Hockey Association (WHA). Three seasons with the Saints and one with the San Diego Mariners were the most productive of his career. He finished off with the Springfield Indians in 1976-77. He played 224 games in the NHL, scoring 15 goals and 83 points, and 269 games in the WHA, scoring 29 goals and 130 points. His father, Mike Sr. also played in the NHL.
