He developed his own style of three finger picking which was instrumental. He was joined by guitarist Norman Woodlief and in 1926 Norman Woodlief was replaced by Roy Harvey from West Virginia. He was born in Spray, North Carolina. Posey Rorer was his brother in law because he married Posey Rorer's sister.
