  • Richard Washington (May 5, 1660 — May 19, 1725) was the son of Augustine Warner and Mildred Reade. He was the soldier, older brother of Lawrence Washington and the great-uncle of U.S. President George Washington. Richard's father, Augustine, was the first of our Washington lineage to arrive in the "Colonies". Augustine arrived in Surry County, Virginia, from Barbadoes, as a merchant, and married Mildred. The marriage between Augustine and Mildred was his first, but her third. She had first married Richard Blunt. Upon Richard's death, she married Charles Ford. Upon Charles' death, she married John Washington. Richard Washington married Elizabeth Jordan, the daughter of Arthur Jordan and Elizabeth Bavin (widow of Richard Bavin). Richard was a prominent landowner as well as a vestryman of Southward Parish in Surry County, Virginia. Richard died between Nov 1724 and May 1725. His will, dated 09 Nov 1724 and probated 19 May 1725, mentions his sons, George, Richard, William, John, Thomas, James, and Arthur Washington, as well as daughters Elizabeth Lanier, Priscilla Washington, Ann Washington, Faith Barker and Mary Hart - and several grandsons.
