With the authorisation of Dunzi, Akaan sent the Bounder Brigade to stop her, only to find that the camera system had been hacked. Upon Rouge seemingly gunning Dunzi down, Akaan and the Bounders opened fire on Rouge, only to destroy the priceless mural behind "her". Some weeks later, Doctor Robotnik returned in full force and announced the arrival of the "New Robotnik Empire". Akaan played his part in defending the Hill Top Zone, using a loose metal pole to destroy a large number of Badniks. After that, his attention returned to Rouge, with the Keeper attending a briefing on the bat's current whereabouts. However, he did not go out and capture Rouge, instead sticking to paperwork in the main office. Almost two years after this failure, Akaan was sent to North Cave in the Frozen Zone in order to investigate a "magickal superweapon". He began his work, but was soon interrupted by a hiding Sonic the Hedgehog. Akaan aimed his pistol at Sonic but was quickly dispossessed of it by the hedgehog. Akaan revealed his reasons for being here and was surprised to see that Sonic was happy to help him find the weapon. In Sonic's absence, Akaan was captured by a Drakon warrior and was hit by an energy weapon. Presumed unabe to fight, Akaan later saved Sonic by throwing a snowball at the Drakon, giving Sonic enough time to escape and destroy the weapon the Drakons had unearthed. On his way home, Akaan revealed that he had a long list of reasons not to arrest Sonic (despite Dunzi's insistence) and urged Sonic to save the day.
