abstract
  • Translator Droid 1 (TD1) was a translator droid created by Selen Grell to aid him in his journeys. It was capable of translating Huttese and Shyriiwook to Galactic Basic and had the capacity to support two other languages. The Huttese, Shryiiwook, and Galactic Basic translation unit was hardcoded in and could not be altered or replaced. Originally painted to resemble a human it was repainted to a shade of light gray after Selen decided it looked too creepy. TD1 was not perfect and required numerous small yellow and red batteries to get it through the day. Luckily for Selen they were rechargeable. In addition to translation TD1 could generate a great deal of light as well as hover thanks to a built-in repulsorlift unit. TD1 was partially hollow and could carry a very small amount of cargo. Usually this cargo consisted of the 4 batteries it required for a day's operation and a small chunk of a green crystal used as a back up power source for Selen's sometimes unreliable lightsabers. When Selen finally learned how to understand foreign languages using the Force itself TD1 became obsolete and was passed on to Selen's father Althur Grell. Several years after the Battle of Endor Althur let Chewbacca borrow it for a few months. Chewbacca used TD1 as the basis for the design of Em Teedee.
