  • Full name Class Nationality First appearanceOathbreakers (novel) Mertis was the Queen of Rethwellan, contemporary to the reign of King Arden and Queen Leesa of Valdemar. Mertis, a member of minor nobility, married Prince Stefansen while he was in exile. They lived in Prince Roald's hunting lodge in the Comb on the Valdemar side of the border. It was there that their son Megrarthon was born. Mertis was described as having "a sweet, soft face; frank brown eyes that seemed to demand truth of you; wavy, sable-brown hair." There was also "more to her than showed on the surface." Tarma described her as "a gentle-seeming lady" with "a good set of claws beneath the velvet." (Oathbreakers) She was no stranger to intrigue, and helped plot the coup with smooth efficiency.
