  • Something small I've decided to do. No biggie. :) - Forest Whitestar sat on the cliff, overlooking his Clan. He had been through so much to get here. He spied his mate, Goldenheart, scolding Silverpaw, her apprentice. Whitestar knew what had happened. He knew that his mate didn't believe the truth. But he so desperately wanted to undo everything that had happened for him to get here. He reminded himself that what he wanted was impossible. He saw Silverpaw's glare, and Goldenheart's pain. Believe her, Whitestar silently urged. He wanted to be overthrown, he didn't want to be leader, not like this. It should have been Kestrelwing. Whitestar stared at the lake. It was so beautiful now, now that he was realizing who he was. What he was. Why he wasn't. He saw a WindClan patrol, far in the distance, the cats indistinguishable. They went seemingly slow, and the horizon seemed to stretch along on either side of them until it reached, him, Whitestar. The lake shimmered in the sunlight of greenleaf. Whitestar's long fur was burning now, but he didn't care. He deserved it. He deserved every small punishment he could get. "Silverpaw is only jealous..." Goldenheart whispered. She stared at Whitestar. Her mate had his back turned, and he was speaking to the medicine cat, Briartail. A tiny voice mewed, "I saw him. I'm not lying." "You might not be lying, Silverpaw," Goldenheart whispered, "but you might have seen it wrong." She herself couldn't ignore a twinge of hope that came alive inside her, while the rest channeled through every word she spoke. Silverpaw just hissed. "I'm ready for training whenever you are, Goldenheart." Whitestar stood at the Moonpool, looking at the shimmering water. The moon was not yet high, but he had to confess. Reverse his leadership. He hated himself. He dipped his nose in the pool, not caring to drink the water. Who knew what horrors could be held in its shimmering depths? He shut his eyes and opened them again. He was at the Moonpool, still. No cats surrounded him. No cats were seen. No cats were scented. He was alone. Rejected. "Our deputy was killed in battle," Whitestar mumbled. The cats below him pricked their ears. "Kestrelwing was killed in battle," Whitestar repeated, louder. "And... so was Pinestar. So... I took over. StarClan's rule," he added. "Who killed them?" a cat asked loudly. Obnoxiously. "A badger," Whitestar informed them. "A badger killed them. They died fighting a badger." The other three leaders stared. "And Pinestar only had one life left?" the ShadowClan leader, Oakstar, questioned. Whitestar nodded. "We also have a new apprentice, Silverpaw," he added, louder, prouder.
