  • Owlbear is a type of monster in ADOM. They are fantastical beasts that tend to appear quite early in the game. They are not notably powerful, at least nowhere near as dangerous as their monster memory description seems to imply, and have no special powers.

  • An owlbear is a large magical beast that looks like a cross between an owl and a bear.
  • A fierce predator found in the woodlands of Avistan, the owlbear is thought to have been the result of arcane experimentation ages ago.
  • Owlbear is a monster who appears in V.
  • Owlbears are frightening creatures, exhibiting traits of both bears and birds of prey. It is believed by many scholars that owlbears are the result of a magical experiment gone wrong, leading the resultant creature to devour its creator. Today, only fools go into owlbear territory, and only the strong or nimble (or those with slow friends) come back out.
  • The owlbear is one of the more dangerous low level monsters you'll face in NetHack, although usually not as lethal as those that appear in groups (like soldier ants). As the name suggests, they are a cross between a giant owl and a bear; standing upright on two legs with fur, feathers, and a beak. Owlbears have a grabbing attack in which the owlbear bearhugs you, holding you in place and crushing you. They were introduced way back in Hack 1.0 and were probably inspired by the Dungeons & Dragons monster of the same name.
  • This card shows Frenzy 1 on ability description, on Facebook, although most of other cards with Frenzy just show Frenzy instead.
  • The Owlbear is an enemy in Puzzle Quest 2. It guards the Southern Lever in the Dark Dwarven Laboratory.
  • In Kalimdor, owlbears are lumbering, misshapen creatures, beloved by the night elf druids and treants alike. They are benevolent by nature, but fearsome when roused or angered. Though they stay away from populated areas, they are often found in the serene glades of Mount Hyjal. (W3Man 87) The owlbears are also described in Appendix Three of Manual of Monsters, however the validity of the source is disputed.

Monster Memory
  • Made in the experiments of a demented wizard, who probably died at the claws of his own lethal creations, owlbears are a mix of giant owls and bears. Rearing to a massive eight feet, the creature's owl-like head gazes down on you. Its bright yellow eyes, which seem calm and wise, yet full of rage at the same time, follow your movements. With razor sharp claws, and a beak that can bite through metal, it starts towards you with a menacing screech. You pray to your god that you may survive this encounter, and hope it is in one piece.

Not known for talking but nothing that shows that they cannot be tought or that they cannot learn this ability. Owlbears are an intelligent race with their other "kin" believed to be able to think further than a common beast and more indepth.
