In 1984, prior to amalgamation, two fire service boards were created to administer the two fire departments in the area. The Wingham and Area Fire Service Board, owned by the former Town of Wingham, Township of Howick and Township of Turnberry, operated the two-station Wingham Area Fire Department with stations in Wingham and Gorrie. The Blyth and District Fire Service Board, owned by the former village of Blyth, Township of East Wawaosh, Township of Morris and Township of Hullet, operated the single-station Blyth and District Fire Department. Following the 2001 amalgamation the Wingham and Area Fire Service Board was owned and operated by the Township of Morris-Turnberry, Township of Howick and Township of North Huron. The Blyth and District Fire Service Board was then owned and operated by the Township of Morris-Turnberry, Township of Central Huon, Township of North Huron and the Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh.These two boards were dissolved in 2009 and two new fire departments were created, the Fire Department of North Huron (FDNH), operating from stations in Blyth and Wingham and the Howick Township Fire Department operating from the fire station in Gorrie.
