Ball moved to South Africa in 1936 and played for a South African combination team in the first international game played in Johannesburg that September against Oxford University. He was also a member of the Johannesburg Lions during the 1936-37 season. He was appointed manager for the Union Ice Rink in Johannesburg, after it opened in June 1937.
