The Hurricanes signed him as an undrafted free agent but he spent most of his time in the minors. The Pittsburgh Penguins accquired him in 2008 for Joe Jensen.

The Hurricanes signed him as an undrafted free agent but he spent most of his time in the minors. In 2006, he was with the Hurricanes when won the Stanley Cup. Although he did not qualify to have his name on the cup, he got a Stanley Cup ring and got to hold the cup during the celebration on the ice after the last game of the series. The Pittsburgh Penguins accquired him in 2008 for Joe Jensen.
