  • __NOWYSIWYG__ Dual broadswords should be renamed to dual dao. "Dao" is a Chinese word that refers to a type of sword. The phrase "dual dao swords" literally means "dual sword swords", which is clearly ungrammatical and redundant. We don't say "katana sword" or "gladius sword". Axem Titanium (wall • contribs) 05:57, September 25, 2015 (UTC) I'm indifferent between twin or dual broadswords, but I am against using shuang doa for my aforementioned reasoning. 07:12, October 5, 2015 (UTC)

Axem Titanium (wall • contribs) 05:57, September 25, 2015 (UTC) If no official mention of the technically redundant name can be found, then I'm all for removing the redundancy per Axem's reasoning. However, if we are going to rename this page, I would be more inclined to rename it to "twin broadswords" (the alternative name of those swords, as also noted on the page) to make it more clear for those not familiar with Chinese (culture) and weaponry that the page deals about a weapon. 07:56, September 25, 2015 (UTC) I believe it is fine as is. This is because in English, they are not referred to as dao, but rather dao swords. Like the Greek Xiphos, meaning sword, we call it the Xiphos sword; or the Greek Dori, meaning spear, which we call a Dori spear. 19:35, September 25, 2015 (UTC) I can agree with Lostris' proposal. I don't believe anyone ever names Zuko's weapons as "dual dao" out loud within the series. We should go with "twin broadswords", "dual broadswords", or "shuang dao" (the real Chinese name), not some weird mishmash of two languages. The former works for me. @Duke, it's not fine as it is. In academic literature, they are referred to as dao. Same with xiphos and dori. And even if redundancy were tolerated in common parlance, why should we leave things as merely "fine" when it could be "great"? Yes, I judge people who say ATM machine and PIN number. Axem Titanium (wall • contribs) 02:34, September 26, 2015 (UTC) Anyone else want to chime in? For the record, I'm in support of Lady Lostris' suggestion. Does anyone have a preference among "twin broadswords", "dual broadswords", and "shuang dao"? Twins are cool. Axem Titanium (wall • contribs) 17:18, October 5, 2015 (UTC) I would go with dual broadswords for the reason that Zuko referred to his weapon as dual swords in "Zuko Alone". Seems a bit more appropriate. File:Waterbending emblem.png Water Spout 18:40, October 5, 2015 (UTC) Based on WS's reasoning, I'll go for dual as well. 20:57, October 5, 2015 (UTC) I like duals too. Is that a consensus I'm smelling? Axem Titanium (wall • contribs) 05:30, October 6, 2015 (UTC) Yes, though it's only binding three days after the lastvresponse when the forum is closed. 07:12, October 6, 2015 (UTC)
