  • THe Dark Castle is a instance in the expansion Tide of Shadows.
  • The prison was created by Arceus, Dialga, and Palkia after they defeated the Fourteen and apparently killed Humanus. It was constructed out of crystals made from Aura, under the belief that its purity and brightness would overwhelm the evil of the Fourteen's Dark Aura. It initially worked, but after Humanus revealed itself and was defeated a second time, it was thrown into the prison. Immediately after, the influence of Humanus's Dark Aura overwhelmed that of the basic Aura crystals, essentially transforming the prison into a fortress for the Fourteen. Since then, it had become their sole dwelling place. Attempts were made to raise it, but all of these were for naught due to the Dragon Force, the layer of Aura Breaker placed between the Castle and the planet's crust, which served as a shield for the world. Hoping to raise the Castle from the outside, Humanus managed to contact humans 5,000 years prior to the modern times, convincing several to learn the ways of the Dark Aura and become the Dark Warriors. However, the Warriors' attempts to raise the Castle were met with heavy resistance by their counterparts, the Aura Guardians, who served under Arceus's orders. The resulting war culminated in the defeat of the Warriors, who then retreated to fight another day. Since then, the Castle has served as the central object of interest for the so-called Aura Wars, waged between the Guardians (who protected the Castle's resting place of Mt. Silver) and the Warriors (who sought to raise the Castle and release the Fourteen).
