After giving the signal to Shenzi, Banzai and Ed, they cause a wildebeest stampede, in which Simba is almost killed, but is saved in time by Mufasa, who was alerted by Scar. With Simba watching on a safe hill, Mufasa struggles to climb his way back up. He sees Scar at the top and tells him to save him. But Scar grabs Mufasa with his claws (thus making him roar in pain), and with a wicked smile, Scar whispers, "Long live the king!". Horrified, Mufasa realizes Scar's true feelings toward him and he lets go of his brother, sending him flying into the stampede, thus getting trampled and killed. When Simba goes down to help his dad, he soon realizes he's dead and begins to cry. Scar shows up and tricks Simba into believing he caused his father's death and told him to run away and never return. He then sends Shenzi, Banzai and Ed to kill Simba, to which they fail, unbeknownst to Scar. Many years pass, and Simba is now an adult and afraid to go back home and confront Scar. But eventually, the ghost of Mufasa appears in the night sky and gives Simba confindence and tells him to remember who he is. At the end, Simba finally does go back to the Pride Lands and defeats Scar, taking his rightful place as the new king of Pride Rock and avenging his dad. In The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, Mufasa's ghost appears at the end to give Kiara and Kovu his blessing. At the end, Mufasa tells Simba that he's proud of him after Kiara and Kovu get married. In The Lion King 1½, we see Mufasa's story from Timon and Pumbaa's point of view, and they riff on Mufasa's scenes like how Mike, Joel, and the Bots used to do in Mystery Science Theater 3000. He also appeared as a guest in House of Mouse. Mufasa's ghost appears again in Kingdom Hearts II to once again give Simba confidence, and he has a flashback where he remembers what Mufasa told him about the stars when he was a kid. Simba replies he though a king could do whatever he wants and Mufasa explains there's more to being king than having your way all the time. He goes on to explain the circle of life to his cub, that the antelope may be food for them but when they die they become the grass, which the antelope eat. Zazu appears and explains gives Mufasa The Morning Report. Mufasa notices Simba's attempts at pouncing and uses the majordomo as target practice for his son. He laughs when Simba succeeds but reports from the underground, via a mole, that hyenas have tresspassed in the lands turns his carefree demeanor serious and he leaps over Simba to fix the problem. He orders Zazu to take Simba home and refuses Simba's request to go with him. When Simba and Nala go into the elephant graveyard and encounter three hyenas, Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed, he saves them in the knick of time and gives his son a lesson about bravery after order Zazu to take Nala home. He tells his cub being brave doesn't mean looking for trouble, plays with his son and tells him about The Great Kings of the Past when Simba asks if they'll always be together. Mufasa is last seen alive during the stampede, intentionally caused by the Hyenas who were working for Scar. He notes the herd being on the move was odd, and rushes to save Simba when Scar reports him being down there. Mufasa jumps into the mess of hooves without hesitation after Zazu locates the cub clinging to a weak branch. He catches Simba in mid air when the branch is broken by a Wildebeest, taking a hit in the process. Simba is flung into the stampede along when Mufasa is tagged by yet another Wildebeest but he quickly grabs his son and moves him to safety. A Wildebeest drags him back into the chaos but with a powerful leap Mufasa clings to and scales the ways of the gorge only to meet Scar at it's top and to be thrown back, and to his death, in the Stampede When Simba is an adult, Rafiki tells him Mufasa is still alive. Eager to see his father again, Simba follows the mandrill and is dissapointed to see only his reflection, but when instructed to look harder, he stares into the very eyes of his father. Mufasa's voice hovers above him, and he curiously looks up to meet his father's ghost. The Ghost accuses Simba of forgetting him, something Simba vehemently refuses, but the ghost counters Simba has forgotten who he is and in turn has forgotten his father. He demands Simba go back, to which Simba asks "How can I go back? I'm not who I used to be." Mufasa recedes into the clouds with a series of "Remebers." The last time Mufasa is heard, Simba has defeated Scar and is taking his place as the rightful king.

When asked by the official Uncyclopedia Staff on what Rafiki represented his response was that one time he slept with a prostitute and thought it was significant enough to put in his movie. He also commented that he hated his movie, but it was still way better than all the Star Wars movies. There have been some allegations that his movie was a ripoff of Kimba's dad's movie, but he suggests that there is no relation. "He describes different drugs, besides he's white." Recently, Jimmy Page has attracted a cult of no less than 666 followers to Mufasa's cause. Mufasa has rather resentfully resigned himself to being their deity and has preformed exactly one feat of divine power for his followers by making it rain rice pudding over London. Mufasa after going to rehab and destroying his needs for drugs, soon found out he was in fact Michael Jacksons step brother, so like any lion that had just got off drugs would do, asked his brother to help him commit euthanasia, his choice of death, jumping of a cliff into a family of wild boars or bananas.
