They were a favorite of General Grievous, who used them as his bodyguards during the Clone Wars. MagnaGuards were equipped with electrostaffs that could be used against Jedi lightsabers. They were worthy competitors even to the most skilled Jedi, one was even able to back Obi-Wan Kenobi into a corner. The droids also had the ability to fight even with the loss of their limbs or head.
- In Star Wars: Battlefront II, the MagnaGuard carries a Bulldog rocket launcher, which fires like a pistol but carries the strength of a rocket. It is one of the CIS officers. They also carry a Radiation Launcher, a Recon Droid and Neuro Poison. They do not however wield electrostaffs.

Ordered by Count Dooku, the MagnaGuards were designed to be General Grievous's personal bodyguards, although they were sometimes seen serving Dooku himself.
