According to Suschitzky, George Lucas wanted him as a director of photography on Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope after first choice Geoffrey Unsworth proved unavailable, but the studio was reluctant to go with someone inexperienced and eventually assigned Gilbert Taylor for the job. Lucas later hired him to work on Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.
