  • In the series pilot, Peter Parker hasn't been long at his career as Spider-Man, the masked web-slining hero of New York. Two students transfer to his college; Bobby Drake and Angelica Jones. It soon becomes apparent that Bobby and Angelica are in fact mutants; superpowered individuals who hide amongst society. Spider-Man convinces them to work with him as superheroes. Bobby becomes Iceman and Angelica Firestar. They work together as tri-force for criminals to reckon with; the first of these being the evil Green Goblin, who is in fact Norman Osborn, the head of Oscorp and father of Harry Osborn, a classmate of the gang and Peter's close friend. After defeating the Goblin, the team imprisons Norman Osborn in a mental asylum and Harry begins to openly accuse Spider-Man of framing his father for the Goblin's crimes. Other subplots spread throughout the first season are the team learning to work together, Peter's courtship of the Daily Bugle secretary Betty Brant and most importantly, the obsession of nerdy student Max Dillon with the group and his dreams of becoming a superhero and taking revenge on those who bully him. After being humiliated at a party, Max gets into an accident and is transformed into the energy superbeing Electro. Electro begins to hunt down those who wronged him, forcing the team to jump into action and face him, subsequently turning Electro against them and into their enemy. The second season begins to introduce additional guest stars such as Iron Man, Captain America and the Hulk. An overarching plot is the team's struggle against Wilson Fisk AKA The Kingpin, the top of New York's underworld. He hires the vicious Juggernaut to take the team down and a battle ensues which culminates in the Juggernaut falling from the Brooklyn Bridge. Meanwhile, the team is contacted by Professor Charles Xavier, who is trying to set up a team to counter threats around the globe. Also on the team are Storm, Cyclops, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Kitty Pryde and Wolverine. The series finale calls the group together for their first mission; to save Xavier, who has been kidnapped by his old nemesis, Erik Lensherr AKA Magneto. The series ends with Magneto swearing revenge. For the third and final season, the fully formed team is identified as the X-Men and continues to ally itself with other superheroes. The main villain is Doctor Victor Von Doom. During the course of the series, other events occur such as Norman Osborn escaping from the sanitarium and trying to take revenge, but is knocked out in the final battle. Harry, enraged, discovers his secret lair and becomes the Hobgoblin, and unmasks Spider-Man. Before he can kill Spider-Man, Norman wakes up and reveals that he is cured; the Goblin has been defeated for good. Harry then becomes Spider-Man's ally as the Hobgoblin. The finale involves all of the heroes who have appeared across the series teaming up to stop Doctor Doom's master plan, who is being assisted by the Kingpin. After a final battle, Doom's escape plane crashes into the ocean and the Kingpin is arrested. The series closes on Xavier explaining that Doom may have survived but the X-Men will be there if he ever resurfaces.
