abstract
  • Gell Kamemor was a Romulan Ambassador serving the empire in the early 24th century. She was born on the colony world of Glintara. In 2311, she worked closely with Kage and Paulo Endara to draft the Treaty of Algeron between the Federation, Romulans, and Klingons. She was friend of Captain John Harriman and had known him for 15 years. The last time she had seem him before 2311 was five years earlier at the signing of a trade accord on a moon in Tholian space. Kamemor eventually agreed to help Harriman sabotage the flagship Tomed after he convinced her that Aventeer Vokar would attack the Federation regardless of whether or not he had authorization for such an act. Kamemor had one son, Sorilk, and described a woman named Ravent as her "mate" (The Lost Era novel: Serpents Among the Ruins). By the 2380s, both Kamemor's wife and son had died, and she had largely retired from public service, having held the positions of senator and a territorial governor. Shortly after the reformation of the Imperial Senate in 2381, Kamamor's clan, the Ortikant, pressured her back into service, replacing their first senatorial representative who had died of a rare disease. She later assumed Praetorship after the death of Tal'Aura. (Star Trek: Typhon Pact novel: Rough Beasts of Empire) As Praetor, Kamemor's more populist politics made her many enemies in the Empire's higher echelons, though the Romulan people came to greatly favor her. Her openness towards the Reunification Movement and her actions in seeking detente between the Typhon Pact and the Khitomer Accords powers brought her into conflict with the Tal Shiar and other political entities in the Empire. Despite these troubles, she remained Praetor far longer than any of her recent predecessors, and even forged something of a friendship with Federation President Nanietta Bacco.
