  • Jimmy Martinez is a professional wakeboarder, he was born on May 12, 1988 in Madrid, Spain. At the age of 4, he started riding motorcycles with his father, which quickly turned into his biggest passion, as he loved the speed and adrenaline that he felt while riding. At the age of 14, Jimmy saw someone wakeboarding for the first time and immediately decided he wanted to try it himself. That year, he entered the Amateur National Series and he got 7th place in his first wakeboard contest ever. From then on, he would spend the winter months riding his motorcycle and wakeboarding during the summer. Jimmy’s passion for both sports was insatiable; but while racing in the Movistar Junior Cup, a well-known motorcycling competition in Spain, he suffered injuries after a crash on the track and was forced to give up racing road bikes. At that moment, Jimmy decided to put all his efforts into wakeboarding and competing on a new track, the lake. The following year in 2004, Jimmy decided to enter the National Wakeboarding Series and after a tough year of competition, he placed 4th over-all in the Amateur standings. With the confidence of improving with each competition, Jimmy pushed harder in his trainings to always try to out-do himself and as a result, he won that year’s series. In 2005, Jimmy felt he was finally ready for the big leagues and entered the Pro-class of wakeboarding, to no one’s surprise; Jimmy took 3rd in the series and two second places in other events. After his success in the competition, Jimmy was named “Rider of the Year” by WakeExtreme, the most popular Wakeboard Magazine in the country. In 2006, Jimmy flew to Orlando, Florida and spent quality time riding among the best riders in the world in order to push himself to the next level. In 2007, he became a part of the national team, representing Spain in the European and World Championships. He ended up ranking 9th in Spain and 12th in the World Championships and also won the National Series, all while studying Economics at “Universidad Autonoma de Madrid”. In 2008, Jimmy was invited to take part in numerous wakeboarding exhibitions, including “Dreams”, a wakeboarding event to an audience of 20,000 people, making it the biggest exposure for the sport that year. This was a big year for Jimmy, he was frequently being mentioned in magazines, radio and television, making him a house-hold name in wakeboarding and making his sponsors all the more proud. In 2009, Jimmy spent a month training in the Philippines at Conelly Water-Sports Complex (CWC), to get in top shape for the year. At the same time, his media success was having a huge impact on the sport as he was featured in Cosmopolitan Magazine, the first time a wakeboarder has been given so much attention in such a well-known, world-wide magazine. In 2010, Jimmy returned once again to the Philippines in order to be ready for the season and it proved successful. Jimmy won the National Series, the Waterfront Battle 2, and the Barcelona Extreme Games. He also competed in the European, World, and Nokia Fise Championships feeling at the top of his game.
