  • In 1994, the entire Zone was frozen solid by The Chiller in revenge for the citizens mocking his dangerous inventions. From within his underground laboratory, the scientist invented a Chill-Machine to freeze the Zone and sent his Chill-Bots out to freeze the civilians with Chill-Guns. The operation was successful, but the climate change was restricted to the Zone. The weather brightened up when the Freedom Fighters intervened and Sonic the Hedgehog warmed up the Zone. A year later, some of the group returned as Bob Beaky's Travelling Circus. Sure that there was nothing to worry them, Sonic ditched his Bob Beaky disguise and went for a run. A Doctor Robotnik sympathiser contacted Citadel Robotnik, summoning Commander Brutus and a squad of Trooper Badniks. The heroes are soon captured, but manage to escape over the bridge whilst still chained together. Brutus follows them by flying over, prompting Sonic to turn into Super Sonic and obliterating the rest of the Troopers.

Furthermore, the Chiller agreed to turn his back on villainy and help the other residents in the struggle against Robotnik. By the time the Freedom Fighters left the zone, the ice had completely melted and the residents were laughing and dancing in the street once more. Some time later, the Freedom Fighters visited the Zone again, disguised as Bob Beaky's Travelling Circus. Sonic was spotted by one of Robotnik's spies in the Zone (a rat), who reported back to Receptionik in Citadel Robotnik. However, the information was intercepted by Robotnik's new second-in-command, the elite Trooper Commander Brutus, who planned to take care of Sonic without Robotnik's knowledge. He brought a legion of Troopers to the Pleasant Zone, and succeeded in capturing the Freedom Fighters. He attempted to demoralise the local citizens by parading the captured Freedom Fighters, before the heroes managed to escape. Pushed to his limit, Sonic transformed into Super Sonic. In this form he obliterated the Troopers and even defeat the supposedly-indestructible Brutus, ripping off his arm and forcing him to flee.
