- To materialize these plants, he tried to convince the royal gardener to culture the evil flowers but he refused, Phobos cruelly came into action and transformed the gardener's family (his wife and daughter) into the first roses. These black roses have the ability to turn anyone it has pricked on by its thorn into another rose (unless they have strong magic) and so formed a barrier surrounding the castle protecting Phobos from any outside threats. Being a gaurdian, Will had the invulnerability to the rose's magic and survived. Even being the guardian of Earth, Cornelia had trouble holding them back as they contain Phobos's dark magic.
- Many consider the colour of black a dark or evil colour. Because of this, the black rose has gathered a dark meaning. In popular legend, black roses often signify death, hatred, or farewell. In some cases, a single black rose was sent by a loved one leaving for war or a journey if they did not expect to return. Because of this, one might think that a group united under the sigil of a black rose to be a bad sign, either unlucky, or even evil.

The members of the Black Roses fight for what they believe in; be it labeled “good” or “evil.” There is no pressure from the leaders of the guild upon their subjects to fight a cause they might deem unworthy. The guild as a whole follows a principle of official neutrality, but each member may fight for their own purposes. The only cause the leaders of the Roses require their members to work for is the advancement of the guild. Led by the Wizard Lenard and his Second in Command, the Druid Lionessa, the Black Roses is a very kind and understanding guild. As a law in the guild, there is no judging of others. Everyone is accepted for who they are, and only judged when attempting to join the ranks of the guild
