  • The Summit of the Americas is a regular set of meetings among senior government officials from 34 nations in the Western Hemisphere. The purpose of the meeting (is to discuss common issues and seek solutions to problems shared by all the countries in the Americas, be they economic, social, military or political in nature. To date three summits have been held: the first in Miami, Florida, in 1994, the second in Santiago, Chile, in 1998, and the third in Quebec City, Canada, in 2001. A fourth summit is scheduled for 2003 in Mexico City, Mexico.
