  • Bobby Knutt was born Andrew Robert Wass in Sheffield on 25th November 1945. He began his career in showbusiness as singer in 1962, becoming a comedian and stand-up comic in 1964. He made regular appearances on the Granada shows The Comedians and The Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club throughout the 1970s as well as many other comedy and variety programmes. His career took another turn in 1976 when he played a straight role in the Play for Today production The Price of Coal and steadily appeared in more acting roles. Between October 1980 and March 1983 he appeared irregularly in Coronation Street in the role of garage boss Ron Sykes. He also appeared in Emmerdale as Albert Dingle between 1995 and 1998 and made a brief return in 2004. His other roles include parts in Earthfasts, Three Seven Eleven, Heartbeat, Last of the Summer Wine. He is also a panto regular in Sheffield. He published two volumes of autobiography, Eyup Knutty and Eyup Again, in 2008 and 2010 respectively.
