  • Nicolae Ceauşescu (January 26, 1918 - September 3, 2002) was a Romanian Communist politician, and leader of Romania between 1965 and 1992, serving as General Secretary of the Communist Party. He was recalled from power by the Soviet Union in 1992, after a brief revolt against him, and replaced by Constantin Dăscălescu. Ceauşescu and his wife, Elena disappeared from the public eye, and lived quietly in a small town in Ukraine, USSR. He died there in 2002, at the age of 84. Ceauşescu is survived by Elena, who turned 96 this year, and their three children.
