He is a Chinese wizard who is charged with the task of freeing the spirit of the legendary Chinese dragon with "the eyes of the idol" that he must deliver to the tomb of Pan Xiang Chao, a good wizard whose tomb has been cursed by evil wizards. He is accompanied by a parrot named Shanghai. In the episode, the Traveler was pursued by two rogues who wanted to get their hands on "the eyes of the idol" for their own profit. The Smurfs saw the robbers and interceded on behalf of the Traveler to protect him from danger, first by Papa Smurf warning him of a landslide in a narrow canyon, and second by the Smurfs imitating the sound of the king's army to send the robbers away when they attempted to ambush the Traveler while he was resting. Also during the course of the night, the spirit of the Chinese dragon has awakened to cause trouble, but the Traveler used "the eyes of the idol" and recited an incantation to make the spirit disappear. Soon, as the Traveler entered into the passageway that led into the tomb of Pan Xiang Chao, he spotted the Smurfs and found out that they were responsible for protecting him. With the Smurfs' help, the Traveler made his way safely to the tomb and had "the eyes of the idol" put into place so that the Chinese dragon's spirit will be free. However, before the "eyes" were put into the idol's sockets, the two robbers attempted to ambush the Traveler yet again, but the Traveler detected their presence and used his skills as a martial artist to send them running for their lives. With the dragon's spirit set free, the Traveler sealed up the entrance to the tomb with an explosive after he and the Smurfs left it and then departed back to his homeland.
