  • The Pandaren Empire is usually regarded as a peaceful, isolationist nation, with no major travel routes connecting it to the other civilizations of Kalimdor. However, that fact has not prevented the Pandaren Empire from sending forth agents into the world. Perhaps the most prominent of these agents is the Pandaren Foreign Legion, an elite rapid deployment force made up of foreign volunteers serving the Pandaren Empire. Originally created to remove more "undesirable" elements from Pandaren society, cutthroats, thieves, and unwanted immigrants were forced to join the Foreign Legion. In many cases, these pariahs were banished from the Empire until they could prove themselves worthy of reentering society. During these early days, the Legion was very poorly trained and badly motivated, often resulting in desertion and excommunication from the Empire. When the Pandaren Emperor realized the usefulness of having a force of foreign military emissaries, he placed a prominent Pandaren general in charge of the Legion, and dictated that the unit would follow an incredibly austere code of discipline, far in excess of other contemporary Pandaren military units. Through this, the Pandaren Foreign Legion was transformed into an incredibly effective fighting force. Today, the Pandaren Foreign Legion is made up primarily of non-Pandaren soldiers. In big part, this is a result of the Pandaren's subtle recruitment of other races, many individuals from which seek citizenship in the Pandaren Empire, which they earn through enlistment in the Legion.
