  • Epsom Salt is a medicine. It is named after the place of its discovery in Epsom, England. If a woman and her three daughters had stuck to Epsom Salts they may not have died early.
  • Epsom salts was the common name for the chemical compound known as magnesium sulfate (MgSO4 • 7H2O), that was used as a home bath salt. After being roughed up and detained on Gosis' species homeworld, Malcolm Reed inquired to Jonathan Archer if the guard would bring them some Epsom salts, to soothe his blisters, if he asked politely. Archer told him that he would not count on it. (ENT: "The Communicator") Epsom salts were, according to the Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 1, p. 249) , named after a town in England.
  • Magnesium sulfate (or magnesium sulphate) is an inorganic salt (chemical compound) containing magnesium, sulfur and oxygen, with the formula MgSO4. Anhydrous magnesium sulfate is used as a drying agent. The anhydrous form is hygroscopic (readily absorbs water from the air) and is therefore difficult to weigh accurately; the hydrate is often preferred when preparing solutions (for example, in medical preparations). Epsom salt has been traditionally used as a component of bath salts. Epsom salt is also effective in the removal of splinters.

It's effectiveness in killing mites is unproven.
