  • Benjamin Smyth Olding (c.1832 - 4 March 1898) was a businessman and local politician. Olding was a partner in the floor cloth manufacturer Ridley, Whitley & Co. A member of the Congregational Church, he was treasurer of the Liberationist Society which sought the disestablishment of the Church of England. For eight years he was a member of the London School Board: he was co-opted to fill a casual vacancy in the representation of Hackney on 12 May 1881, he held the seat at the triennial school board elections in 1882 and 1885. He lost his seat in 1888.

He lost his seat in 1888. A resident of Long Ditton, Surrey, he became a member of the local authority there, Esher and Ditton Urban District. He died suddenly aged 66 and was cremated at Woking.
