  • Slope-head Isle
rdfs:comment
  • Slope-head Isle is an isle off of the Barbarian Isles just beneath Alikal's Icy South. Slope-head Isle sits west of the Malnadd Isles, which are frozen and rocky. Slope-head Isle has no city, no nobles, and is not very complicated. Its folk are quite, subsist on fish, potatoes, and ice flies, and are shaggy eight-foot tall slope-headed giants with the strength of three men. They speak alda-krii, literally rock-roar. Aside from familial structures, there is no real power here, only the common folk, and the rock-men.

The giants are about as smart as humans, and have a rich oral-tradition, telling tales of brave giants facing off against thousands of Toothless Warriors, wooly rhinos, mastodons, sabre-toothed cats, terror birds, ice dragons, and all sorts of beasts. Their tales tell of ancient kings, past emperors, pale men with horns in the east, and giants exploring an eastern land where men were as dark as ash, or giants exploring a southern land where there was snow for thousands of miles, and giant crow-faced beasts hunted ment at night, stealing their skin, and dancing on their graves, and blue birds flew across the dark nights in the winter. The giants have never built boats. Exploration is for glory, not for the sake of it, in their culture. Just six years ago, the northern village at North Bay began spreading rumors of pale men, smaller even than the Goldenmen, who spoke a barbaric tongue, and carried scepters that spewed fire, and rode on boats that looked like crocodiles with wings. They say that their oldest rock-man, Alda-thu, Thu for short, went with them, hoping to learn more about them, and have stories told about him.
