Koses, an incredibly skilled pilot during the Clone Wars, was selected by Admiral Gial Ackbar to be the leader of the first squadron to use the new A-wing starfighters. Koses was tasked with finding the pilots himself, with Ackbar believing that a captain should know his wingmen. Ten were employed as members, ranging from former bounty-hunters to high-ranking members of the Alliance. Koses decided to name the squadron after San-Ha-Vin, Jeden's Jedi Master, who passed away from old age shortly after Order 66, which he survived.
