The Boston Bruins chose him 34th overall in the 1976 NHL Amateur Draft while the Calgary Cowboys picked him 67th overall in the 1976 WHA Amateur Draft.

He played Tier II Junior "A" with the Nanaimo Clippers and Major Junior with the Victoria Cougars from 1972 to 1977. The Boston Bruins chose him 34th overall in the 1976 NHL Amateur Draft while the Calgary Cowboys picked him 67th overall in the 1976 WHA Amateur Draft. Gloeckner could not agree to terms with the Bruins and sat out the 1977-78 season. In 1978 the Detroit Red Wings signed him as a free agent and he played in 13 games for the team, scoring 2 assists. He spent the rest of the season with the Kansas City Red Wings. He played for the Johnstown Red Wings in 1979-80 and then retired.
