- Nicola Duffett (born 22nd January 1963 in Portsmouth) appeared in Coronation Street in May 2015 as Mrs Bird, the chief officer for environmental health at Weatherfield Council. The daughter of a naval officer, she gained an interest in acting by taking part in school plays. She has also appeared in Perfect Scoundrels, In Suspicious Circumstances, Maigret, The Bill, Dangerfield, Birds of a Feather, Torchwood, Doc Martin, New Tricks, Casualty, Waterloo Road and Doctors but is best known on the small screen for her regular roles in EastEnders as Debbie Bates from 1993 to 1995 and in Family Affairs as Cat Matthews from 1998 to 2005.
