He has a rather annoying, arrogant manner which is why Abbott's people - especially Patrick Jane - cannot stand him and vice versa he seems to underestimate the abilities of Jane and Abbott's whole team. In the episode "The Whites of His Eyes" he gets shot by assassin Lydon. He gets seriously injured and until the paramedics arrive Jane is the one who stays with him. He keeps his heart rate down with breathing exercises. It is presumed by the nurse who takes care of Spackman that Jane saved his life by keeping him from bleeding out.
