  • Dame Sarah Elizabeth Oram, DBE, RRC (25 December 1860 – 26 June 1946) was Principal Matron, Mediterranean Expeditionary Force and Senior member of Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service (QAIMNS), serving as Matron-in-Chief from 1915-1919 (World War I period). She was born on Christmas Day, 1860 in Cirencester, the only daughter of Samuel Thomas Oram, a Surveyor of Taxes, and his wife, Sarah Gibbons Oram. She was awarded the DBE (Military Division) in 1919 and invested on 10 March 1920 at Buckingham Palace.
