It takes the form of a 1998 Frank Miller comic and its 2006 movie adaptation starring Gerard Butler. The next day, Leonidas has gathered with 300 of his finest soldiers and intend to set out to the Hot Gates (Thermopylae). Although the council has withheld permission to go to war because of the Ephors, they cannot deny Leonidas his right to travel with a personal bodyguard. The councilman know full-well his true intentions, but cannot legally stop him according to Sparta's laws. While Leonidas embarks on his journey with the 299 other soldiers to the Hot Gates, Gorgo remains behind in Sparta in hopes of rallying the support of the council to send the rest of the Spartan army to his aid. Along the way, Leonidas is happy to cross paths with a small contingent of Arcadian soldiers whom had received word of the Spartans heading to war with Persia and sought to join forces. Leonidas welcomed the Arcadians, in spite of their lack of training compared to he and his Spartans. They eventually arrive at the Hot Gates in time to witness a powerful storm eradicate many Persian ships. However the Spartans are shocked and confused to still see so many ships landing on the beach nearby the next morning after the storm has subsided. The Spartans devise a plan to rebuild the Great Phoecian Wall in order to guard their flank, and result in using the bodies of slain Persian spies as the morter for the large rocks they put in place—to the horror and anger of another Persian emissary. The Spartan's actions further instigate the battle, and soon Xerxes first volley of troops attack, with the Spartans tearing through them with ease. That night, Xerxes counters by sending his widely known and feared "Immortals"—the elite of his military. They too are slain with relative ease, though a handful of Spartans are killed in the process. Impressed with their strength, Xerxes seeks to meet with Leonidas in person. He attempts to bribe Leonidas, offering him the status of ruler over Greece in his stead. Leonidas refuses, knowing that subservience to Xerxes is in essence slavery. Xerxes becomes more and more angry with the Spartans boldness and defiance, but mostly their skill. Wave after wave of soldiers from the farthest reaches of the Persian empire crash down on the Spartans but they break through the Persian lines time and again. Strange beasts are sent after them but are dispatched just as quickly. Even still, the Spartan forces are whittled down little by little. One particularly harrowing death was the death of Captain Artemis' son Astinos at the hands of a calvary rider. The Spartan's morale was slightly shaken following his death, but they continued to fight nonetheless. Their fate was sealed when they were betrayed by Ephialtes, a deformed Spartan child whos parents fled Sparta to avoid the law of infantcide. Ephialtes approached Leonidas in hopes of joining the Spartan ranks in the fight against Persia and regaining his fathers honor. Leonidas was forced to decline Ephialtes offer due to the fact that he could not sufficiently raise his shield and thus posed a major threat to the back bone of the Spartans defense: the phalanx. Embittered and disgruntled, Ephialtes eventually approached Xerxes and informed him of a small goat path that led behind the Spartans. The next morning Xerxes dispatched the rest of his Immortals and he himself came to the battlefield. He offered the Spartans one last chance to surrender, Leonidas appeared to accept the offer, dropping his shield and spear and kneeling before Xerxes. It was all a premeditated plan however, as Leonidas called out for Stelios who emerged from within the Phalanx and catapulted himself off of Leonidas' back, thrusting his spear into Xerxes' general and killing him. Xerxes belligerently ordered the slaughter of the Spartans and the thousands of archers, infantry and Immortals laid waste to the remaining Spartans, but not before Leonidas managed to hurl his spear at Xerxes, clipping the side of his face and thus Leonidas made good on a promise he made to Xerxes earlier in the film to "make a god-king bleed". Dilios, whom had been sent home by Leonidas prior to the final battle in order to tell their story, stands before the council speaking inspiring words regarding Leonidas and the other 298 Spartan's sacrifice. The film concludes with Dilios leading 10,000 Spartan soldiers and 30,000 other Greek soldiers against the remaining Persian forces at the battle of Plataea.

Later, Julia informs Barnabas that the injections she has been administering are beginning to take effect; the structure of his blood is changing. She is more confident than ever of a complete cure for his vampirism. Julia examines him and finds his heart beating normally. Barnabas, who still does not fully trust the doctor, begins to wonder how his life will change if her experiments are successful. His loneliness and isolation will be at an end. Julia insists on complete cooperation and brings up Barnabas' visit to Victoria's room the previous night. She warns him against the risk and temptation, and orders him to stay away from Victoria. He reluctantly agrees. Julia says she isn't sure she can trust Barnabas' word. Having returned from their date, Victoria and Burke are kissing in the courtyard by the fountain by the patio at Collinwood. After stating that he's buying the Seaview house for her, Burke proposes marriage, and after she recovers from surprise, Victoria says needs time to think. She says she doesn't want to leave the Collinses--especially Elizabeth--who have become like her real family. But she also states that becoming Mrs. Burke Devlin will also give her a real identity for the first time in her life. Burke intends to keep asking Victoria every day until she accepts. They kiss passionately, unaware that Willie is watching them. Barnabas has dropped by to pay a visit at Collinwood and speaks with Elizabeth in the drawing room. He claims business has kept him occupied and that he still plans on developing a ship-building firm. The subject of Seaview crops up, and Elizabeth confides her suspicions for Burke wanting to purchase such a large house. Barnabas, disturbed by the prospect that Victoria might marry Burke, makes a hasty exit. He returns to the Old House where Willie informs him that Burke proposed to Vicky. Barnabas insists there will be no marriage; Burke Devlin must die!

- If this was the intended motive, then we, the reviewing staff of Wikiality.com, feel Snyder failed in his goals. We feel the casting choices work more to give the entire film a somewhat surreal quality. To better see this, consider Snyder's choices for each of the following roles:
* Truthonidas: Brilliantly played by Professor Dr. Stephen T. Colbert, D.F.A. But why cast Colbert opposite George W. Bush? Doesn't make sense. On a more positive note, we believe an Oscar may be forthcoming.
* Queen Charlene: Soledad O'Brien is lovely and compelling as the Queen of Sparta who is willing to bend over backwards for her country's freedom. We believe that Snyder intends for Queen Charlene to represent the American people. While we support his choice of O'Brien as Lady America's collective representative, we wonder where in his warped mind he got the idea that America could get reamed by Thedick?
* King Berserxes: A great job of acting by George W. Bush, who had to dig deep to make this role of the leader of an oppressive superpower his own. Great Actor, or the Greatest Actor?
* Thedick: Dick Cheney. Another great stretch in acting. Cheney portrays the corrupt leader of the senate who betrays not only the senate and his country, but sticks it to Queen Charlene as well.
* Oracle Girl: Ann Coulter. Coulter really convinces as a drugged-up, blathering idiot who is the only one who understands what she's saying.
* Epiglottis: Robert Novak turns in a great performance as the deformed miscreant traitor - and without make-up.

- Despite the warning, Leonidas gathers 300 of his best soldiers to fight the Persians, selecting only those who have already sired male children, so that their family name can continue even after their death. As they march north, they are joined by a group of Arcadians and other Greeks. Arriving at the narrow cliffs of Thermopylae (referred to as the "Hot Gates"), in sight of the Persian army, they build a wall to contain the Persians' advance immediately in front of their position. Ephialtes, a hunchbacked Spartan whose parents had fled to save him from customary infanticide, approaches Leonidas, requesting to redeem his father's name in battle, and warning him about a secret goat path that the Persians could use to outflank them, and surround them. Leonidas turns him away because he is unable to properly hold the shield, and would therefore create a weak spot in the phalanx. Xerxes encourages Leonidas to surrender Before the battle starts, the Persians ask that the 300 drop their arms. Leonidas responds; "Persians! Come and get them!" The Spartans use the phalanx formation, the narrow terrain, and their fighting skill with shield, spear and sword, to effectively fight off numerically superior waves of attackers, driving the regular Persian infantry off a cliff, and withstanding a cavalry charge without any losses. Xerxes, impressed after the two armies' first engagement, personally approaches Leonidas, and attempts to bribe him with wealth and power in exchange for his surrender. The Spartan king declines, saying that he will instead make the "God King" bleed. The Spartans then face the Immortals, losing a few of their number to the Persian elite guards but still defeating them, with Leonidas personally killing the Uber-Immortal. The Spartans prevail over other types of troops from the vast reaches of the Persian empire, including Mongolian barbarians and their rhinos, soldiers with explosive grenades, and Indian war elephants. However, their last victory is overshadowed by the death of Captain Artemis' eldest son, Astinos. Two days after the fighting begins, an embittered Ephialtes reveals the location of the goat path to Xerxes, having been promised a lucrative and powerful position in the Persian Empire. Back in Sparta, Queen Gorgo, upon the advice of a loyal councilman, attempts to enlist the influential Theron to help her persuade the Spartan council to send reinforcements to Leonidas. Theron agrees to help, but demands that Gorgo submit sexually to him; Gorgo reluctantly consents to his advances. Meanwhile, the Greeks realize that Ephialtes has betrayed them, and the Arcadians decide to retreat in the face of certain death. The Spartans refuse to follow, obedient to their law. Leonidas orders only one man, Dilios, to retreat and use his rhetorical skills to tell the story of the 300 to the Spartan people, ensuring that they be remembered. Dilios reluctantly leaves with the Arcadians. At Sparta, Queen Gorgo appears in front of the council, but is not supported by Theron, who furthermore accuses her of adultery. The Queen, enraged at this betrayal, snatches a sword from a nearby soldier and kills Theron. When Persian coins fall from his purse, the Council denounces him as a traitor and unites against Persia. At Thermopylae, the Persians have surrounded the 300 on all sides. Xerxes's General demands their surrender, saying that Leonidas may keep his title as King of Sparta and become warlord of all Greece, answerable only to Xerxes. Ephialtes begs him to do so as well; Leonidas quips back "may you live forever" (the ultimate Spartan insult, as they wish to die in battle). After feigning submission, Leonidas orders his man to cut down the General, causing Xerxes to order his troops to attack. The remaining Spartans are killed in the hail of arrows; Leonidas finally falls, but not before delivering on his promise to "make the 'God King' bleed", wounding him on the cheek with a thrown spear. The Persian king is visibly shaken at this reminder of his own mortality. Dilios eventually returns to Sparta, and inspires the council with the bravery of the 300. Dilios finishes his tale on a new battlefield, surrounded by raptly listening soldiers. He concludes that the Persian army, who lost countless numbers defeating a mere 300 Spartans a year earlier, must now be terrified to face 10,000 Spartans and 30,000 Greeks from the other city-states. The roused Greek host charges the Persian army, beginning the Battle of Plataea.
