The jelly repaired damage to their exoskeletons, kept the plates and connective ligaments supple, and purged bacteria and contaminants from their spiracles. This process was an involuntary function of their exocrine system. When they leave the sac (which they pry open on the inside with their claws), the jelly spills out, making a mess. Their native language consisted of an impossibly fast series of clicks with barely any variance in pitch, at least according to Human ears. The Kaferian diet consists almost entirely of fruit sugars, and they don't eat flesh. They also have six limbs and a carapace that serves as protection against low-level radiation.
