| Synopsis | - Wally West, dejected, watches news coverage of his mentor Barry Allen laying waste to his former home of Central City, while Green Lantern is nearly killed trying to stop him. Wally feels as though having his identity as the Flash taken away from him has had a stronger effect on him than even losing his powers - especially when it has been taken from him by his mentor, who has clearly gone insane. Meanwhile, Barry has also announced on television that Wally's Flash is dead, leaving Wally wishing he was dead.
- Max Mercury leads Barry up among the girders of the construction site, using his superior agility to counter Flash's speed. Unfortunately, Barry uses innocent bystanders as a distraction, and knocks Max to the ground. However, he has the wind knocked out of him by Jay Garrick, who warns one final chance before he starts hurting his old friend. Despite the warning, Barry pummels him, and his antics cause a circling news-chopper to lose control. Barry escapes leaving Jay to try to save the helicopter's occupants before it crashes.
- Elsewhere, a group of construction workers find their lives in peril when the Flash begins destroying the building they're working on, shaking them from the girders. At the last second, they are saved by Jay Garrick, the first Flash, and his companions Johnny Quick and Max Mercury. The three speedsters confront Barry on the ground below, and they use their combined wits to combat Barry's sheer speed that they cannot match. Even so, Barry's changed personality brings an unexpected lethal quality with it, and Johnny Quick is injured gravely.
- Meanwhile, Wally wanders the streets and winds up returning to the place where, months ago, he had first encountered the returned Barry. There, he discovers a book, by chance, which contains confusing information about Barry and his wife Iris. Inside it, he sees two words that reveal to him the secret of this returned Barry Allen. He dons his Flash uniform and rushes to the scene of the battle with Barry, arriving too late to stop the explosion that he assumes has consumed Jay Garrick.
