In the late 23rd century, a Starfleet vessel (of an unknown class) was named for Muir. The John Muir, which bore the registry NCC-1732 and was commanded by Captain S.C. Jaffe, was undergoing a refit at Starbase 24 during the discussion of Operation Retrieve. (TOS movie: Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country) John Muir was quoted in the opening of TOS novel: The Rift. The ship that bears his name was not shown onscreen, but was depicted in a computer readout. The ship's captain was named for the film's second unit director, Steven-Charles Jaffe.
