  • The Great Forest was a mythological location, the Talaxian afterlife. In the Great Forest, at the Guiding Tree, the spirit of a deceased Talaxian will be met by a member of his or her family, and then be led to their ancestors. (VOY episode: "Mortal Coil", ST reference: Star Trek Cookbook) Great Forest article at Memory Alpha, the wiki for canon Star Trek.

  • The Great Forest is an area introduced in Monster Hunter Frontier Season 1.0. • The Great Forest was a wooded area on the Forest Moon of Endor. The forest was located west of expansive grass plains and north of the Desert of Simoom.
  • The Great Forest is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It was a massive wooded area beyond the former site of Robotropolis, and covered much of Northamer. It acted as a safe haven for the Mobians who managed to escape the city during Dr. Ivo Robotnik's military coup; Knothole was built deep within the forest and remained hidden there for over a decade. For many years it acted as the home for the Knothole Freedom Fighters; however, when Knothole was bombarded by the Egg Fleet, the surrounding portion of the forest was burned to the ground. Despite this, much of the remains intact.

  • The Great Forest region of the Toran Republic has seen a great deal of unease and bloodshed since the dawn of time, due to the racial disharmony within the region. However, a long peace came to the region following the Great Contract, which was agreed upon by all the races living in the Great Forest. Even after the Scarlet Moon Empire came into power, the empire upheld the Great Contract. Like many regions in Toran, the Great Forest boasts a mild and warm climate, with the exception of the Village of the Dwarves, which is quite cold due to its high altitude.
  • The Great Forest developed many centuries before Mobius' modern era, and many of its trees grew to be extremely large and long-lived. Within its bounds there existed a number of limestone caverns, many of which were later exposed by erosion to become the Great Valley, a large area hidden from view by the forest. The valley became the site of Knothole, a small village that served as a refuge to inhabitants of the Kingdom of Acorn in times of trouble, such as the Great War. It particularly served the House of Acorn and their court, but later became home to many of the former residents of Mobotropolis following the city's takeover by Dr. Ivo Robotnik. (CSE)
  • Due to its size, economic benefit and significant importance to the Imperial deity, Taal God of the Wilderness, the people of the Empire has come to both respect, prize and fear this sea of near unbroken trees. Though a majority of the land of Talabecland is covered by the Great Forest, large swaths of it were cut down and made into farmlands, or to supply the Empire with a large influx of wood to fuel their burgeoning Lumber industry.

In order to prevent other areas from discovering the many races living in the Great Forest, the Six Wise Men of the Forest hid the Forest and its people from the outside world via protective magical wards that prevented humans from entering the forest. However, during the Toran Liberation War (SY 455-457), the protective wards were broken when General Kwanda Rosman used the Burning Mirror to destroy Lukiae Ende Towayo, a massive tree that housed the Village of the Elves. Following the establishment of the Toran Republic, a post-war reconstruction was undertaken on Lukiae Ende Towayo, with Kirkis Shana Ques Laviankaana overseeing the repairs. However, at the same time, mankind became aware of the Great Forest region and began to explore it; what effect they have on the area is currently unknown. Like many regions in Toran, the Great Forest boasts a mild and warm climate, with the exception of the Village of the Dwarves, which is quite cold due to its high altitude.

With miles upon miles of untamed wilderness, the forest became home to many types of creatures both natural and supernatural. Bandits and outlaws that seek to avoid Imperial authority often hide their encampments within the forest canopies. Greenskin tribes and Beastmen Warherds have often claimed large territories within the deepest parts of the woods, which the Imperial Armies struggle to locate and erradicate. The forest has also been widely known as a haven for bands of the Chaos followers that were initially defeated in a previous invasion into the Empire. As with in the other forests of the empire, many areas have also been cleared for the construction of roads, villages and towns, but the forest is still vast and covers much of the central empire. Roadways through the forests connect towns and villages to one another, dotted with fortified inns and watchtowers. Regular patrols by empire state troops, such as the Drakwald Patrol, and militia bands are routinely carried out to guard against the threat posed to travellers and caravans from bandits, beastmen, forest goblins and other dangers. Despite the areas the Men of the Empire have cleared over the years, the forest can never be truly conquered, and under the dark forests canopy unknown numbers of horrific creatures that crave for the destruction of Mankind's civilizations watch and wait.

It particularly served the House of Acorn and their court, but later became home to many of the former residents of Mobotropolis following the city's takeover by Dr. Ivo Robotnik. (CSE) The forest, as Knothole's hiding place, served as staging grounds for two groups of Freedom Fighters: the Original Freedom Fighters under Tig Stripe, and the Knothole Freedom Fighters under Sonic the Hedgehog and Sally Acorn. In particular, the later group used one of the caverns near the village as their clubhouse, eventually transforming it into Freedom HQ. The Great Forest continued to serve as Knothole's hiding place throughout the First Robotnik War and well into the second, though Knothole's development later made its location obvious to outsiders. (StH: #1, #43, #142) Ultimately, Knothole was destroyed by an attack launched by the Egg Fleet, and its citizens relocated to New Mobotropolis. Freedom HQ remained the Freedom Fighters' primary base for a time, but the region of Knothole was left largely uninhabited and became known as the Great Wastes. (StH: #175, #176, CSE)
